Since we will be seeing a lot of new patients for medicinal cannabis treatments in Western Australia, we thought it would be a good idea to talk about the top questions new patients have.

Where is the medical cannabis clinic?

The clinic is located in Subiaco, Perth and has easy access to trains and plenty of parking. We don’t publish the street addresses of our clinics because currently, we don’t accept walk-in patients. The reason for this is simple: there are some qualifying criteria for medicinal cannabis treatments in Australia, including West Australia. A main one is if you suffer from a condition for which there is evidence that medicinal cannabis therapies may help and you have already tried conventional treatments for your condition. That’s why the first step to take is to complete the free Screening Appointment online or call at 1300 991 477 to make sure you are likely to be approved.

What medicinal cannabis conditions can be approved?

TGA-approved medical conditions to be treated with medical cannabis therapies include chronic pain (including cancer pain), chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting, epilepsy, palliative care and multiple sclerosis.

The TGA requires that there is some evidence that medicinal cannabis treatments will work for your condition before they approve it and that you have exhausted conventional treatments outside the realms of medicinal cannabis therapies.

How much does medicinal cannabis in Australia cost?

There is a cost of $99 for an Initial Consultation, with additional costs for patients who continue with government applications and treatment.

CA Clinics does not charge patients for their prescriptions. Prescriptions are passed on to nominated pharmacies to dispense a patient’s medication. This is to ensure that doctors remain unbiased when treating a patient. Unfortunately, these costs are not currently covered by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, so patients have to pay the full cost.

How long does medical cannabis treatment take to get approved?

Approvals typically come within one to five days from the application submission date, subject to case complexity. Please be aware that prescriptions need to be ordered in for each patient (pharmacies can’t hold stock) so even if your approval is quick, it will realistically be at least a week, and probably longer, before you can start on your treatments.

So those are the most common questions. But there are the answers to many more questions on our FAQ page. If you live in Western Australia but are not near Perth or can’t easily get to our medicinal cannabis doctors for treatment don’t worry – CA Clinics also sees patients all over Western Australia using our telehealth (video based) consultation service.
